What do you see on the card?
A naked woman kneels at the edge of a pool, her left knee on the land and her right foot on the water. She pours water from two jugs: one into the pool, the other onto the land. Above her shines a great eight-pointed star, ringed by seven smaller ones. Behind her, a bird has alighted on a tree.
- The great star — hope and the guiding light.
- The seven small stars — the many signs that guide you along the way.
- The two jugs — renewal flowing back into the soul and into the world.
- The unclothed figure — the freedom of honesty and vulnerability.
- The bird in the tree — the soul taking wing again.
The story of the card
The Wanderer ran from the ruins of the Tower for a long time, until at last the storm fell quiet. The clouds parted, and one star shone out brighter than all the rest. Its light led him far across the land to a clear spring.
The Wanderer walked toward the light. At the water he found a young woman quietly drawing water. From one vessel she poured onto the land, from the other into the spring. She did not ask where he had come from. She only smiled and let him rest.
The Wanderer sat down, and his dog lay beside him. For the first time in a long while he did not have to run, choose or fight. He simply watched the star, and slowly he understood: something may have collapsed behind him, but the road ahead had not ended.
When he looked up again, the starlight was falling on a narrow path in front of him. He knew he had to set out once more. Not alone this time. With hope in his heart.
When you can no longer see the path, look for the one light that is still shining.
UprightThe Star Meaning
Hope, faith, healing. When the Star appears upright, a light comes on again after a hard stretch: things are turning in a good direction, and piece by piece they fall back into place.
Waite gives the card a double reading: first "loss, theft, privation, abandonment," then, from another tradition, "hope and bright prospects." Modern readings follow the second. Today it is the card of inspiration, renewal and spiritual connection — you can trust what lies ahead of you.
ReversedThe Star Reversed
Reversed, the Star can point to discouragement and lost hope — the moment you stop believing that anything better can come.
It can also signal low self-confidence or disillusionment. Still, the card reminds you: the star is there even when clouds cover it.
